Women of Trachis

“Parados” from Trachiniae

Melody Loveless was commissioned by Barnard-Columbia Ancient Drama for their production of Sopholcles' "Trachiniae" ("The Women of Trachis") and was directed by Anna Conser. The production was in ancient Greek with English supertitles and by a chorus of 11 and four soloists. The ensemble was accompanied by three instrumentalists playing piano, percussion, ukulele, oboe, and cello.

To preserve the meter of the poetry, Conser and Loveless worked closely to match the meters of the movement to the rhythms in the poetry and the melodic lines to the pitch accents of the language.

It was premiered March 31 - April 2, 2016 at Minor Latham Playhouse on Barnard's Campus.
