If I were a machine

Instrumentation: percussion quartet

Read and Workshopped by: Sō Percussion

Program Notes: Inspired by the working class and the phrase "Do What You Love," this piece was created as part of the 2015 Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SoSI). "If I were a machine" treats the performers as if they are machines by having them make percussive and machine-like sounds with their voices and using driving and repetitive rhythms. It talks about the privileges of "[doing] what you love for a living" and participating in a festival like SoSI ("We're not all this lucky you know").
